Risks and benefits of cashew nuts.

About cashew nuts.

Kaju or cashew nut is native to subtropical climate but is widely available across the globe. This tiny kidney bean shaped nut is the powerhouse of an array of nutrients.

Cashews are low in sugar and rich in fiber, heart-healthy fats, and plant protein. They’re also a good source of copper, magnesium, and manganese — nutrients important for energy production, brain health, immunity, and bone health..

Health Benefits of cashew nuts

Rich in protein, healthy fats, and antioxidants such as polyphenols, cashews offer a variety of noteworthy health benefits.

Reduced Cholesterol

Cashew nuts have previously received a bad rap for including saturated fat, but this may not be as problematic as the saturated label suggests. Much of the fat in cashews comes from stearic acids, which experts believe has a neutral impact on blood cholesterol. Research suggests that people who eat a small serving of cashews every day see a minor reduction in LDL “bad” cholesterol.

Heart Disease Prevention

In addition to lowering rates of LDL cholesterol, cashew nuts may help to prevent heart disease due to their high magnesium content. Proper magnesium intake may reduce the risk of ischemic heart disease, which often occurs when the heart does not receive enough blood.

Stroke Prevention

The magnesium in cashew nuts  may help to reduce the risk of stroke. This link is most notable for hemorrhagic strokes, which result from a weakened vessel that spills blood into brain tissue upon rupturing.

  • immune health

Cashew nuts contain zinc which boosts the body’s overall health by strengthening the immune system.

  • Improves bone and oral health

The phosphorous content of cashew nuts makes it essential for the healthy development of your teeth and bones. Phosphorus also aids the body in protein synthesis, absorption of carbohydrates, and maintaining cellular health.

  • Improves eye health

Another health benefit of cashew is that it improves eye health. Cashews contain zeaxanthin and lutein antioxidants which protect the eyes from UV rays. These antioxidants act as an essential defence in the eye, protecting it from damaging lights and reducing the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts.

  • Helps weight loss

Need to lose some weight? Do it the healthy way by adding some cashew nuts to your diet. The fats in cashews allow good cholesterol growth, and their protein and fibre content keeps you satiated, helping you regulate your diet, promoting weight loss.
